SPIDER TROPHY - A DUD?

A couple things to checkout please:

1) the Spider Trophy, a prize in the latest contest, is in slot #1 and so I can not check out its characteristics but I believe it was described as a powerful soul entrapment item, better than the capture scrolls to charm "bout anything" if I remember correctly. So far it generates a failed message whenever I have tried to use it. Specifically, I mention it failed to charm Dragon Lords and Weredragons and at least one other set. Are these exception monsters; am I using it incorrectly loaded into a spell slot (like other charm scrolls); or is it a dud?

2) Since the Spider Trophy does provide increased A/D, I am running deeper than before and stupidly have died at least 3 time mostly because I didn't keep a close enough watch on my hit loss (slow learner). But on each death (not stoning) so far using the Spider Trophy it has subtracted a CON. I did not use to lose a CON on a natural death. What has changed?

Please clarify or checkout these two mysteries.

Hmmm. Some monsters cannot be charmed even with soul entrapment. I will go make a change to the item's spell. When you play next, try using it when you are not in combat, it will summon some buddies for you.

As far as con loss goes, I cannot for the life of me imagine why it would cause this to happen. Unless you are taking morgue raises. I will experiment.

I was unable to replicate this problem.  I tried various combinations of carrying/going up to city first/etc.  
Let me know if this issue arises again, and try to record your actions leading up to it EXACTLY and in great detail.

Your char died many times, and has aged slightly.  Please use the deager I supplied there to return him to his appropriate pre testing age.

I modified the trophy to now summon buddies as opposed to catching them.  Enjoy.
