FIXED: Lost levels
Came in today and thief was rolled back 30 levels and no longer had whisper someone was kind enough to pass along. Healer i was focused on got rolled back from level 150 to 108, argh! Other chars rolled back levels in the teens. What happen, crash and had to restore backup from days back? I know crashes happen, but big ouch!

Re: FIXED: Lost levels
I loaded some new stuff today, but I did not (knowingly) touch the folder that holds player character data.
Has anyone else experienced a loss of progress? Sorry about this.. Please email me he character name/signon at:

Rollback again
Looks like this morning we are rolled back on levels to the same spot we were last time I reported this problem. Running from backup data again I assume.
FYI.

Re: FIXED: Lost levels
This appears to have occurred again. Some chars lost quite a bit of progress from where I left them last night. What safeguards can be put in place to prevent further incidents like this?

Re: FIXED: Lost levels
It appears to be reverting when the server restarts at 2 AM. We knew there would be some issues with switching to the new server.. this appears to be one of them.
I just restarted the server--hopefully it's pulling from the proper data at the moment.

Re: FIXED: Lost levels
I think I have figured this one out. A bit of background for those who are interested:
Each Javatar server runs in its own dedicated folder. If we wanted to run 10 instances, we could, but we don't. Right now we run exactly two--the 'production' server that everyone plays on, and a second server that JP, Josh and I use for testing.
As I have done in the past, I created shortcuts on the desktop to each javatar server application (an exe file) in each appropriate folder. Here's where our new version of Windows steps in... If you fail to set up that shortcut to run in 'administrator' mode, when you click a shortcut to an exe, it will, apparently, run the file you want to run, but pull the data files that exe file runs from some weird hidden cache. In this case, Windows was essentially pulling out an old character file it had cached a few days ago.. This is extremely weird and concerning, but it is what it is I guess.
Whenever I ran the application from its native folder (logged in as an administrator) I didn't get this issue. Ah well, the price we pay for 'better' operating systems. At least this one touts itself as being virus resistant. heh heh..
Anyway, I thought I would share. There are a large number of weird hoops we have to jump through in the background to keep the dungeon running.
