I hope that summon monster makes a comeback. It certainly seems like it is a viable part of the game and with summon item, should be doable coding wise (a guess).

At 2:00AM tomorrow morning (about 6 hours from now), the secret to casting 'summon monster' as a non-item spell will be unlocked to the members of the Mage guild.
