odd crash behavior

The game shot craps this morning.

ALL my chars were 'off gold' except the thief.

When i returned to the game, the thief was in the dungeon-- all other chars were in the city and all 8 of them had 993,xxx gold on them. one was 993,321 another was 993,701. Of the 8 chars 3 were 993,362.

I cannot imagine why this would have occurred "naturally" -- so I surmise it is some sort of odd crash behavior.
